Beach Works Extended as Weather Slows Progress in Weymouth
Work to level the sand at Weymouth Beach will continue into the weekend after challenging weather conditions slowed progress midweek.
Crews made strong headway on Monday and Tuesday, but shifting conditions on Wednesday meant operations became more difficult, although work has continued on site.
Weymouth Town Council confirmed that the essential beach levelling programme — aimed at maintaining safety and improving access — will now run beyond its original schedule. A further update will be issued to confirm when the beach will fully reopen to the public.
The council has thanked residents, businesses and visitors for their patience while the work is carried out, stressing that the improvements are necessary to maintain the quality and usability of the town’s iconic seafront.
The extension means parts of the beach in Weymouth will remain temporarily restricted, particularly if weather conditions continue to present operational challenges.
Further updates are expected in the coming days.
