Volunteers from Weymouth Street Pastors are reminding people heading out in the town to stay together and look out for one another during busy Friday and Saturday nights.
One of the most common situations Street Pastors encounter while on patrol is people becoming separated from their friends — something they say can quickly lead to vulnerability and risk.
To help keep nights out safe and enjoyable in Weymouth, the team has shared their top five safety tips:
• Stay together – Keep an eye on everyone in your group, especially if someone is upset or feeling unwell.
• Protect your drinks – Always watch each other’s drinks, particularly when dancing or visiting the toilets.
• Agree a meeting point – Before the night starts, set a clear meeting place and time in case anyone gets separated.
• Avoid drinks from strangers – Don’t accept drinks, vapes or cigarettes from people you don’t know, especially if you haven’t seen the drink poured.
• If someone feels unwell – Stay with them and alert bar or door staff immediately. If you suspect drink spiking, raise the alarm straight away.
Street Pastors are on duty in Weymouth every Friday and Saturday night from 10.45pm until 2.30am, offering practical help, reassurance and support.

A person has tragically died on the railway line on the route between Weymouth and London Waterloo.
Officers from British Transport Police confirmed they were called to New Milton railway station at around 11.10am on Thursday 5 March following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
A stronger crackdown on illegal waste dumping has resulted in a significant increase in fines for fly-tipping across Dorset. Data published by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) shows that local authorities in England dealt with 1.26 million fly-tipping incidents during 2024–2025, a nine per cent rise compared with the previous year.Across the South West, there were 55,349 reported cases, representing an 8.1 per cent increase.In contrast, figures from Dorset Council show the county experienced a decline in incidents.
