Today marks a landmark moment for the station with the launch of a brand new website, the debut of AIR Xtra and the announcement that the station is in the process of transitioning its name to AIR Dorset.
The move to AIR Dorset reflects the station’s evolution and long term vision. While proudly continuing to serve Weymouth an Portland, the new name strengthens its identity, creates a clearer regional presence and prepares the station for future expansion onto DAB later this year. It signals growth, ambition and a confident next chapter.
Alongside the rebrand, the station has unveiled a completely redesigned website delivering a faster, cleaner and more engaging experience. The platform brings together trusted local news, show information, ways to listen, community updates and new digital advertising opportunities for local businesses wanting to connect with a loyal and growing audience.
Advertising space is now available across the website, giving partners enhanced visibility both on air and online. The digital platform will continue to develop over the coming months, including the introduction of a dedicated mobile app to make listening and accessing local content even easier.
Launching at the same time is AIR Xtra, a dedicated live events and sports commentary stream built to capture the biggest local moments.
AIR Xtra provides uninterrupted coverage of football matches, music festivals, gigs and major community events, while allowing the main FM service to remain music led. It also gives the station the flexibility to bring key moments onto FM when it matters most. Major goals, headline acts and important announcements can now be shared instantly with listeners on the FM dial, bringing the whole community together in real time.
Managing Director Carl Greenham said “This is a defining moment. We are sharpening our identity, gearing up for DAB, and opening the door for more local businesses and community groups to be part of something bigger. AIR Xtra gives us the power to cover the moments that matter without compromising our core service. This is bold growth, long term sustainability, and a clear commitment to keeping local broadcasting strong and future ready.”
