Residents across Weymouth and Portland are being warmly invited to discover the world of angling as Weymouth Angling Society prepares to host a special Open Day next month.
The event will take place on Saturday 14th March 2026, running from 10:00am until 4:00pm at the society’s headquarters on Commercial Road, Weymouth (DT4 8NF).
Organisers say the day is aimed at everyone — from complete beginners and families wanting to try something new, to experienced anglers keen to connect with others in the local fishing community.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet shore and boat anglers, along with a range of special guests and organisations including Dorchester District Angling Society, Weymouth Angling Centre, the Southwest Federation of Sea Anglers, EFSA and Dorset Lure Company. The Big Lerf will also be in attendance.
The WI will be supporting the event by selling cakes and food in aid of charity.
As well as learning more about angling, attendees can browse a table top sale, enjoy refreshments with the bar open throughout the day, and enter for the chance to win a £100 prize.
The society says the Open Day is part of its ongoing commitment to promoting responsible angling and encouraging wider community participation in fishing across the area.
Anyone interested is encouraged to come along and take a look.
