The main Ridgeway road between Weymouth and Dorchester will be closed for overnight works for almost two weeks starting on this evening. The A354 Monkton Hill will be shut between 8pm and 6am on weeknights from Monday, March 9 until the morning of Saturday, March 21. The closure will affect the stretch of Monkton Hill from the Stadium Roundabout heading south for around 2,730 metres. The road will reopen during the daytime and throughout the weekends to help reduce disruption for drivers.
The temporary closure is required so that Dorset Council can carry out essential resurfacing works, including targeted and localised repairs to sections of the carriageway.
During the works, a signed diversion route will be in place to allow motorists to travel around the closure.
The official diversion, which must use roads of the same classification, will direct traffic along the A353 through Littlemoor, Preston, Osmington and Poxwell, before joining the A352 through Broadmayne. Drivers will then follow the A35 westbound back to the Stadium Roundabout.
The road closure order is necessary to comply with health and safety regulations, ensuring safe working areas for crews and reducing potential risks to road users.
