As the town prepared for one of its busiest social weekends of the year, volunteers from Weymouth Street Pastors are once again ready to play their quiet but vital role in keeping people safe. On Friday and Saturday nights, teams of trained volunteers will patrol Weymouth town centre from 10:45pm onwards, offering reassurance, practical help and a friendly presence for anyone who needs it.

Working alongside partners including Safe Space Weymouth, based at St Mary’s Church, the Street Pastors aim to ensure that visitors enjoying the Young Farmers weekend have somewhere to turn if things don’t go to plan.

The volunteers’ rucksacks are packed with practical items for the night-time economy: first aid supplies, water, phone chargers, flip-flops for those who can’t manage their heels any longer, and even space blankets for anyone feeling cold or unwell. A defibrillator is also carried as part of their emergency preparedness.

While their work often goes unnoticed, the Street Pastors provide a calm and caring presence in the town centre, helping people get home safely, offering medical assistance where needed, and supporting door staff, police and other services.

Safe Space at St Mary’s Church will also open its doors from 9:45pm, offering a warm, welcoming environment where trained volunteers and medical support are available.

For many enjoying the weekend’s celebrations, the Street Pastors are a reassuring sight — proof that someone is always looking out for the wellbeing of Weymouth’s night-time community.
