Match Report: Yate Town 0 – 2 Weymouth FC Kick-off chaos delays game by over an hour after crowd trouble The match between Yate Town FC and Weymouth FC was overshadowed by crowd trouble that led to a significant delay, before eventually finishing more than an hour behind schedule.
Weymouth made a sensational start, taking the lead inside just 40 seconds through Andreas Robinson, who struck almost immediately after kick-off to give the visitors an early advantage.
Shortly after the goal, an incident involving a Yate supporter escalated into an altercation with Weymouth fans, prompting match officials to suspend play. Stewards and police intervened as the situation developed inside the ground.
The game was halted for around an hour while order was restored. Police attended the scene, and although no arrests were made, the disruption led to additional safety measures. The bar at Yate Town’s ground was closed by police during the incident.
It is understood that three Weymouth FC club directors were in the area at the time and helped to defuse the situation alongside officials.
Play eventually resumed at approximately 4pm.
Following the restart, Weymouth regained control of the match and extended their lead. In the 27th minute, Calvin Brooks headed home from a Burrows corner to make it 2–0.
Despite the earlier disruption, Weymouth comfortably saw out the remainder of the match to secure all three points.
The result marks a third consecutive victory for Weymouth, a run of form that is helping keep the club just clear of the relegation zone.
The fixture ultimately concluded more than an hour later than scheduled, with the crowd trouble casting a shadow over an otherwise strong performance from the visitors.
Throughout the incident, live coverage was provided by Ben Ashelford on AIR EXTRA, a dedicated stream hosted via the AIR DORSET website. He kept listeners informed as events unfolded and continued to deliver full match commentary once play resumed.
No further action from authorities or the clubs involved has yet been confirmed and we understand no arrests have been made.
