New signs have been installed in Weymouth to tackle litter and dog fouling. The signs have been placed in areas including Marsh playing fields and Melcombe Regis Cemetery. Additional cigarette bins have also been added along Custom House Quay and Trinity Road. The changes are part of a trial to improve cleanliness in known hotspot areas.
New signage has been introduced across Weymouth as part of a project to reduce litter and improve public spaces.
Litter Free Dorset has worked with Dorset Council and partners to install signs in key areas identified as litter hotspots.
Locations include Marsh playing fields and Melcombe Regis Cemetery, where signs encourage visitors to use bins and clean up after their dogs.
Along Custom House Quay and Trinity Road, new signs promoting responsible cigarette disposal have also been added.
Two additional cigarette bins have been installed in these areas alongside those provided by local businesses.
The locations were chosen following a litter survey, community focus groups and workshops with schools earlier this year.
Organisers say the project will trial different messages and designs to see which are most effective in changing behaviour.
The initiative forms part of the wider MyWeymouth litter project, which aims to improve the environment across the town.
