Air Dorset 107.2FM has confirmed that its brand new studios in Weymouth town centre are nearing completion, with an official opening date set for Monday 11 May 2026 at 10:00am The date has been carefully chosen as it marks the 13th anniversary of Air Dorset first broadcasting on FM, making the occasion both a celebration of the station’s history and a major step forward for its future. In a significant honour for the station and the town, Michael Dooley the Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, the King’s official representative has confirmed he will officially open AIR’S, new purpose built studio’s

The new facility, located in the heart of Weymouth, will become the central hub for the station, supporting local broadcasting, community programming, and expanded coverage across Dorset.

Station representatives say the project has been months in the making, with work now entering its final stages before the official launch.

Commercial Director Jamie Lyones, speaking on behalf of the station, said the opening marks an important milestone for both Air Dorset and the local community.

He said:

“Opening our new studios in Weymouth town centre on the same day that marks 13 years since we first broadcast on FM makes this moment incredibly special for everyone involved with Air Dorset. We are honoured that the Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, Michael Dooley, will officially open the studios. It will be a landmark day for Weymouth and a real privilege for the station.”

The event will also have a deep personal significance, as there is a unique connection between the Lord-Lieutenant and Mr Lyones. Michael Dooley previously worked as a senior consultant at Dorset County Hospital, where he delivered Jamie Lyones’ children the first set of quadruplets born in Dorset 25 years earlier on exactly the same date.

The opening ceremony on 11 May 2026 is expected to mark a historic moment for the station, celebrating more than a decade of broadcasting while ushering in a new era for community radio in the town.
